Essential Trace Elements and Arsenic in Thermal Springs, Afghanistan

Thermal springs are natural hydrogeological features which highly affected by local volcanism or tectonic activity. the best source of hydrothermal energy to heat houses and aid in recovery skin diseases. However, they consist some heavy trace metals such as arsenic, lead, zinc, copper, iron, so forth. Somehow, thermal central Bamyan have become contaminated with essential elements. Thus, this study was conducted assess determine number these elements springs. To achieve objectives, a preliminary survey, water sampling, situ measurements physicochemical parameters were research areas. All collected samples analyzed chemically amount elements, including barium, manganese, zinc. The shows that temperature ranged from 16 32 °C, while average pH value 6.25. Almost all showed an extremely high electrical conductivity (average: 5713 µS/cm) significantly total dissolved solids 3063 mg/L). chloride 797 mg/L, is dramatically higher than standard values. In regard element concentration, almost heavily arsenic it recorded 100 µg/L eastern part Bamyan. amounts zinc 4.14, 6.05, 1.90, 1.76, 0.74 respectively. conclusion, not suitable for human consumption because significant well high-water quality index value. Using drinking irrigation purposes has been deemed inappropriate.
